Glow Music Presents Concert Number Five on Sunday May 4, 4PM, 2025 at First Unitarian Church in Cincinnati!

We are looking for musicians who want to share their story, connect with audience and build their community, strengthen their performance resume, collaborate with a composer/performers, get a professional quality recording, and get paid!

The Concert Number Five will be a joint recital of two musician groups, where two commissioned work will also be premiered. It is held at First Unitarian Church, the historical church of the Mt Auburn community. These musicians will be invited to MY Cincinnati as guest artists to perform for their students. It is a great chance to meet a youth group with diverse backgrounds to see what advanced musicians can do to help with the needs of our community. Musicians will receive a $300 fee for these events.

Through the application process, Glow Music will select two composers, either two soloists, one soloist and one duet, or two duets for the joint recital. Each soloist/group presents 30 minutes of music. Composers will receive a commission of a 5-7 minute solo/duet piece. Performers (vocalists and instrumentalists) will perform 20-23 minutes of their own program and the commissioned piece. Program order and other details will be decided after Glow Music receives all the program, including the commissioned work. Check the application details below!   1. Eligibility
    • Students
      • There is no age limit.
      • Students of any nationality can apply.
      • Students currently enrolled in music or music education degree programs in Cincinnati and the Northern Kentucky areas are invited to participate.
      • Recent graduates who have graduated in or after May 2023, and reside in the Greater Cincinnati area can also participate.
      • Must be able to get payment in check or through Venmo. International students must be approved with CPT and be eligible for outside-of-school work.
    • Availability
      • Concert date: Sunday, May 4, 2025, 2:30-6PM. The concert starts at 4PM.
      • Community Engagement program date (MY Cincinnati): [Updated] Wednesday, April 16, 2025, 4:45-5:50PM.
    • Collegiality
      • Performers: Must be comfortable working with composers.
      • Composers: Must be comfortable working with performers.
      • Must be comfortable working with beginner students with diverse background.
  1. Application Requirements for Composers
    • Portfolio that represents your work the best. Include the following if you have:
      • Chamber or solo instrumental music
      • Song/song cycle
      • Large ensemble
    • We are looking for acoustically composed music.
    • Fill out the application at glowmusic.live/whatwedo and submit it by no later than Monday, January 6, 2025, 11:59pm.
  1. Application Requirements for Vocalists and Instrumentalists
    • Apply as a solo or a duet
    • Video Recording: 8-10 minutes of music which best represents your artistry and technique. It can be one piece (movement) or combination of multiple pieces (movements).
      • This repertoire may or may not be included in your suggested program.
      • When applying as a duet, the music needs to be played by the duet applying. (Vocalists and instrumentalists: if your program includes a piano part, you are applying as a duet with the collaborative pianist.) Separate videos of each member might be considered, but the priority goes to the duet who submited their recording as an existing duet.
      • The video should be recorded within 6 months of the submission.
    • Suggest program:
      • Glow Music is looking for artists who can curate their own program that is unique to them. We are looking for a narrative that can touch each audience.
      • Suggest a 20-23 minute recital program that tells a story. The story has to be your own.
      • Submit; titles of music (year), composers (year)
      • Program change between January 13 and March 16, 2025 is at discretion of the artistic director. Program change after March 18 is unacceptable.
    • Glow Music supports percussionists and harp players for their transportation, up to $50 on the day of the concert.

  1. When selected, composers will receive commissions immediately. They are expected to submit a draft or more than half of the piece by February 28 and to submit the complete piece by March 16, 2025.
  2. When selected to perform, instrumentalists and vocalists are expected to learn a commissioned piece in 7 weeks to perform. The commissioned piece will be distributed to performers on the week of March 17, 2025.
  3. During the selection process, you may or may not have a conversation with the artistic director.
  4. You will know the result within a week.
